As an artist one often
thinks of throwing stuff away that has been hanging around the studio
for too long. The animated webcam project below is a case in point.
I was cleaning up my files when I ran into images which had been
out of my mind for about two years now.
I originally made a book
of some of the jpegs which are now animated, but I never bothered
to develop an actual animation. Part of the reason was that I thought
of them as images for and by the web and if I edited them, I would
need to do it in a video editing program such as premiere or final
cut -- that, to me, leads to a process outside web media. Those
programs can certainly edit video for any format available, but
their main purpose is not the web -- then came Flash for the web.
It seemed right that I develop animations with these images from
long ago, and so I did.
The stills
were taken from the KCRW
website. The radio station has a web cam which often shows the studio
where the DJs perform their broadcasts. But as the animations show,
sometimes the camera presents images which do not make much sense.
