Project 1: Introduction to new media practice 20%

Due: Thursday January 31, 2013

Develop two separate elements/objects/images. One should explore the potential of material samplings, and the second the potentential of cultural citations. The project, as a whole, can take any form you find appropriate: a photoshop collage, a more traditional collage of different papers, design in print and/or online, installation of various media, mix media (as you decide to define this term), animation, or a performance -- or a combination of any of these.

The project should take a critical stance, meaning that it should offer a space for reflection and interpretation. It should not be didactic by any means. The project can support or question the concepts of material samplings and cultural citations. This is up to you, but you must develop your position through research, which you will show and discuss along with your final project.

You will be expected to be professional in your presentation: If you work in print, mount it; if online or DVD, make sure to have a proper introduction, etc. Work in a medium that you know well enough to produce something of professional quality. This will be part of your grade. You will also be graded on how well you balance content and form, and how effective you are at producing material that expresses the subject of your interest.
