Production of Transmedia Project 35%

Due: Monday, December 9, 2013

Your assignment consists of three parts. For the first part consists of two options:

1) Options:

  • First Option: Develop a project of your own which implements principles of Transmedia. You may use the ideas you initially explored in your first analysis of The Matrix, or you may explore a completely new subject. Many students developed projects that functioned across various media, including Facebook, Twitter, and other platforms. Others focused on writing, and others developed images or time based media. Whatever your project, you need to take the time to produce more content or expand it to a larger scale, and find a way to implement it successfully at least in one other medium, beyond the project's original form. You can discuss details individually as necessary. There will also be weekly assignments that will allow you to go through the creative process of finalizing your project. It will be crucial that you keep up with all assignments so that you may gather enough data to analyze and data-mine as discussed in points 2 and 3 below.
  • Second Option: Choose a transmedia subject of your choice and gather information to data-mine and eventually visualize. The transmedia project must be approved before you begin analysis. For approval you can consult in person during class meetings, or by sending an e- mail to the professor. You must do this as soon as possible, but no later than November 20 in order to have enough time to do proper analysis.

2) Develop an infographic that presents information you gathered through the data-mining according to the first part of the assignment. You should take a similar approach to your data-mining and visualization of Capote and In Cold Blood.

For the infographic you need to consider:

  • The information is presented as clearly as possible.
  • The design is elegant and to the point.
  • The information included is as accurate as possible based on the tools and techniques you implemented.

3) Write a 500 - 600 word reflection on the findings of your own creative process based on the data-mining and data visualization that you performed for point 2 above. The text should include:

  • A statement of your initial intent with the project, or interest in your analysis
  • A description of the process you went through to develop the project (if your own project) or a description of your process of analysis of a pre-existing transmedia project
  • The outcome of the project, if your own (if you're analyzing a pre-existing transmedia project this part is not applicable)
  • Description of things you learned, or found out through the process of creating the project and its analysis and visualization.
