Project 3: Production of new media art/design project, 35%

Due: Monday, December 5, 2016

Your assignment consists of three parts.

1) Based on the experience you attained on basic critical analysis for project 1, and your design of an infographic on a subject of your choice for project 2, develop a multimedia project that would be deployed across media. You don't need to have a full working project, but rather a well developed concept with at least one aspect fully developed. You have a few options to complete this part of your assignment.

  • if it's a game that you first envision, or that you already developed for another class, then you can use the first part of the assignment as an opportunity to explore how you could turn the concepts behind the game into a story, a film, or an artwork.
  • If you have a story you want to expand, then you can use this part of the project to develop visuals, music, or a basic game concept.
  • If it's an image that you start with, then you can use this part of the project to develop a story, a game, or music.
  • If it's music you start with, then you can use it to develop projects that move across other media similarly to the other possibilities described above.

Consider closely the process you went through for your third weekly assignment. You can have the same approach but you will need to push your work to reach a higher level. In other words, you need to produce material that looks like the real thing. For instance, If you want to work on the concept of a game, then you will need to produce at least one element that makes this premise believable: the Game case cover, or an online page that promotes the game. The same goes for a film or a novel/short story. To get a sense of how to make your project believable, you need to do research and study how real production is deployed across media.

2) Design a graphic image that shows how the material you researched informs your final idea. The design is open for you to explore and refine your art and design skills. It does need to be well-developed following design rules discussed in class so far.

Design Guidelines:

  • The information needs to be presented as clearly as possible.
  • The design should be viewed with ease in order to get to the point.
  • The information included needs to be accurate based on the references and techniques you implement.
  • If you decide to include data you gathered, you do not need to redesign graphs and charts developed with software such as Excell, Google Charts, or Infogr.am.
Instead, make them part of a design of your own that includes images and text related to the content you analyzed.

3) Write a 600 - 700 word reflection on your creative process. The text should include:

  • A statement of your initial intent with the project, or interest in your analysis
  • A description of the process you went through to develop the project and the research you performed to achieve its final form
  • The outcome of the project
  • List of sources you researched in order to develop your idea along with a design showing how your sources inform your final project.

You will review the work of one fellow student and provide feedback. Specific instructions on how to give feedback will be included in the Forum discussion of the final project.
