Note: Weekly assignments are worth an overall of 5% of your grade, and linked to attendance on Thursdays. Not turning your weekly assignments on time will also affect your attendance as it will be considered equivalent to an absence.

Weekly Assignment, Due no later than November 21, 2011:

Choose at least one JQuery script from the links provided under Weekly Sites to the right, and implement it into the design you have been working on. You may also implement in a preliminary design for your third major project.

I will go around and discuss some of the scripts that may work well for your own project.

Note that this part of class is for the most part self taught. The reason for this is that much of the development you will do in the future will consist of a DIY approach. Up to this point, you have primarly done stuff that I showed you. It's now time to implement some things on your own.

After reading the lecture on YouTube APIs, complete the exercise described in the lecture and incorporate one of the YouTube API pages into your own CSS design you have been working on in PHP. You must make sure that the page you choose is adjusted to your actual design.

Customize a skin that you created by modifying one of the Flash files found in the components folder, as instructed on the Flash lectures available above on the top right.

You skin should be a different color, and should have uniquely designed buttions. At least a stop and play/pause button.

Based on the Video Streaming Lecture tutorials available above on the top right, under Weekly Assignments, make a list of three videos you have produced and emded it as an xml file ready to call up the videos to be streamed on your Flash interface. Once you have the Flash interface designed, embed it on a php page of your own design, preferably, the one you have been working from CSS Zen.

Take of a CSS design from CSS Zen, as shown during class lecture and modify the design of your choice to make it your own. Change color, size and selection of type, as well as images. You must change the dimensions of the main DiV tag as well as all other containers within the main tag. Upload to Angel on the folder titled "Weekly_Assig_9_20." We will discuss it during class on Tuesday, September 20, 2011.

Choose a work from Turbulence that explores the pontential of online time-based media, and write a brief analysis no longer than 300 words that answers the following questions:

  • Why did you choose this work?
  • What is the work trying to say?
  • What type of technology is used?
  • How does the art work bring together content and form? Is it effective? Why or why not?

Note that the project does not need to be a video. It could be a web project that juses animation or movement of some sort.

You must upload your document in word format to the corresponding folder titled "Weekly_Assig_8_25", available on Angel. Please note that the assignment will be considered late after 12:00 PM. You will not be able to upload material to the folder after this time. However, you can upload your late assignment to the folder titled "Weekly_8_25_After_12." You will lose the equivalent of one letter grade for late weekly assignments. Deadline for late assignments is 5/31 at 5:30 PM.
